Troopers from the Waterloo Barrack were called shortly before 4:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26 to a stretch of I-95 near Route 32 for a reported multi-vehicle crash.

The initial investigation determined that a Hyundai Elantra attempted to pass a Toyota Highlander, police say. The Hyundai made contact with the Toyota, which caused the Hyundai to spin into the left lane.

After spinning, the Hyundai was struck on the driver’s side, leaving the driver - a woman whose name has not been released - with critical injuries. She was transported to Howard County General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Her name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
